Head to Taxco, Mexico. It’s the country’s silver capital. It’s a beautiful city not too far from Mexico City. (see wikipedia link below).
Taxco has an amazing history of silver mining and is home to many, many skilled silver artisans. (The art was revived in the 1900s by American William Spratling, who is highly honored there.) You’re bound to find many people who could help you.
I did a quick google search for “taxco plata” (plata is Spanish for silver) and found several links. The first one, silverplata925.net, appears to be for a group of silversmiths. There’s contact info there.
Silver from Taxco is the most sought-after in Mexico. Plus, it’s just a beautiful place to visit. To get there, I’d suggest flying into Mexico City and then buying a travel package that would allow you to reach Taxco by bus. The bestday.com.mx link below is just one travel agency that could help. Google “Taxco viajes” to find others.
