One would imagine that the age old Celtic jewellery designs would have been lost in the folds of time by now. However, thanks to our jewellery UK designers, these lovely patterns live on in almost all jewellery stores across the nation. Right from the bridal jewellery section to the office wear counter, Celtic designs can be found everywhere. These ornaments are made using gold, silver, platinum and often studded with semi precious as well as precious stones.

While the love for Celtic designs seems to be crossing the border and gaining a universal appeal, it is also true that not many of us how to buy these pieces. One often wonders if they will gel with our more modern and casual dressing style, or should one stick to wearing them only on the traditional occasions.

Rather than fret about this further, simply stick with the advice given below and you find that buying Celtic ornaments has never been easier.

Everyday wear- Not all of us go to jewellery stores looking to buy grand and expensive stuff. Most of us are hoping to buy jewellery that we can wear casually too. Celtic designs can easily be incorporated into your daily wear jewellery, despite their grand designs. Most jewellery UK designers have understood this fact and designed, rings, pendants and even ear wear in materials like silver and other similar cheaper metals that can be worn almost everyday. Try and pick Celtic patterns that look complete even though they have been incorporated in smaller ornaments.

Special occasion wear – If looking to buy Celtic jewellery for a special occasion, so that it has an awe inspiring impact, pick out a slightly larger piece than a smaller one. Neck pieces look especially nice when it comes to Celtic designs, since it allows the designers the freedom of a larger space. Chokers, larger bracelets and even chunkier earrings should be picked when hoping to wear the ornaments at a wedding or a red carpet occasion. These can be in either gold or silver, according to your budget and preference.

Bridal wear – For those brides who wish to adorn these Celtic designs with their lovely white gowns, the sky is the limit. Celtic bridal jewellery is very popular since it lends a majestic aura to the bride. You can pick designs that have semi precious and chunky stones in them in order to add some colour to the jewellery piece. Working with moon stones and even corals will work quite well since these stones blend rather nicely with the Celtic patterns. Keep in mind that these designs usually look better in an antique finish as opposed to a glossy one.

As is evident now Celtic ornaments can be worn almost at any time with any outfit. One simply needs to learn the art of picking and choosing them wisely. Indeed opting for the finely crafted pieces works better since they tend to look much more pleasing to the eye. So when buying Celtic jewellery, do ensure that you pick a piece that is close to your heart, even if it is a bracelet that you will wear around your wrist.

The lead up to your wedding day can be a rollercoaster of excitement, joy, fun and naturally some pre-wedding nerves.

As this should be one of the most enjoyable times of your life, make sure you have a supportive group of family and friends around you.

Enjoy the female companionship around you, when choosing your wedding dress, wedding theme and little details such as wedding jewellery sets.

Remember as a bride to be that men are different animals to women, and if your future husband does not get as excited as you about the wedding preparations its best not to take this too personally.

In preparing for a wedding it is easy to forget that the reality is that once the big day is over what you are really preparing for is a life shared with someone that you love.

Pre-wedding nerves can be helped with a realistic approach to the overall picture which is committing to another human being for life, warts and all.

History of the roles of men and women has pigeon-holed how we are expected to behave in relationships, and nowadays younger people have the opportunity to evolve and realize the real differences and learn to embrace them and be tolerant.

The ideal marriage is when your partner is your best friend as well as your lover.

When the initial romance settles down into something less passionate, a relationship can find itself at a crossroads.

At this stage a relationship can either move onto a deeper level which can take some work and a lot of honesty, but believe me the potential life you will have with your partner makes this worthwhile. Some couples are lucky and this process can happen relatively naturally, but most have to put some work into it.

The psychological differences between women and men can throw up obstacles and hurt within a relationship, and this is the turning off the crossroads that some couples, often through a lack of knowledge, take once the initial romance has worn off.

One of the main differences is that a woman just wants to be heard when she talks about issues or problems, whereas a man feels the need to find a solution.

A man is more likely to be thinking but not communicating a problem as he feels he should find a solution.

In the meantime the woman is feeling confused as he seems withdrawn and she may force him into talking when he is not ready.

Mutual respect and awareness of our differences is the solution.

On top of this the boundaries of bread-winner have changed massively over the years, which can lead to insecurity for some men.

As a woman it is really important to be aware of this.

It is not the fault of a man when he feels this way, as it has been part of his role in society since the time of hunter-gatherer.

Also remember that your partner can often be playing the role of mirror to you. So some of the annoying things about him can be traits you also have, but have cleverly covered up, or at least you think so!

If as two human beings you approach the relationship with the same compassion they would have for their close friends, this also makes a big difference.

If you view your partner as what he can potentially be by being your life partner, you will naturally make him feel good and this way you will discover ways that you can both encourage each other in realizing your full potential.

For a successful relationship, do your best to forget your pre-conditioning and male and female.

Practice treating him as your best friend, as over time he should become your best friend as well as your lover.

Making jewellery has been a passion of mankind since the beginning of history. Today, there are even more opportunities to create beautiful jewellery for yourself, with a wealth of suppliers, information and equipment that is within reach of everyone. But there are a few things to consider before you take your first steps into the world of jewellery making.

Cost and supplies

Making jewellery can cost as little as a few pence to begin with. A bag full of beads, some thread and a needle and you’re ready to make your first necklace. Alternatively, you can spend a great deal of money on equipment – kilns for enamelling and working with modelling clays, precious metal settings and beads, high quality gemstones and the finest quality tools; the choice on how much you spend on your jewellery making is really up to you. You can make your pastime fit your budget.

If you have decided to start making your own jewellery, then finding a good quality supplier should be top of your list of things to do. Look for suppliers who have a good range of tools (in all price ranges) a wide selection of findings, settings and accessories such as proper beading thread or jeweller’s pliers. Companies like Cookson Gold have an established name as suppliers both to the public and to the industry, so check their history. If the company has been supplying jewellery-making equipment for a long time, the provenance will reassure you that they are a company to be trusted.

Investment in good quality equipment is essential for good quality results. Build your collection of tools and accessories up slowly. The old adage ‘you pay for what you get’ is certainly true when it comes to jewellery making equipment. A cheap pair of electrician’s wire cutters may cut adequately, but jeweller’s wire cutters will cut far more cleanly and with more precision, essential for fine work particularly with precious metals.

Safety

Never underestimate tools. Even something as seemingly harmless as jewellery making has its hazards, particularly if you are considering using any form of high temperature equipment such as kilns or blowtorches. Try to keep your working area as uncluttered as possible. Small snips of wire can easily penetrate skin, so meticulous cleaning should be part of your workshop routine. A small fire extinguisher is a worthy investment to prevent any hot material from combusting. Be very aware that some chemicals used with jewellery making give off toxic fumes, so ensure that your working area is well ventilated. Safety should never be given secondary importance.

Workspace

A good working area is essential for jewellery making, preferably with plenty of room for storage drawers. A good beginners tip is to invest in some compartmentalised fishing boxes, which are relatively cheap and very robust. They will enable you to keep small items like jump rings and earring wires separately stored and tidy. If you are using heat for any of your projects (such as blowtorches or kilns) a heatproof surface is essential. Make sure your actual working space is well lit to enable you to see your work properly without causing eyestrain.

Books and the Internet

Although you will learn quickly as you progress, there are hundreds of books and online sites available to give you tips, inspiration and guidance in your jewellery making. Good suppliers will have a selection of books that, in their experience, will suit all levels of ability and cover a range of specialist subjects.

Inspiration

Beginner’s projects will give you a starting point to work from. Kits can be bought to make up all kinds of jewellery, and from those you can start to develop your own ideas and designs. Keeping a scrapbook and taking cuttings of designs in magazines can act as your very own jewellery ‘prompter’, allowing you the chance to recreate the designs yourself but putting your own, unique touch to them.

Warning!

Jewellery making is addictive. Once you’ve created your first piece, it doesn’t stop there. You’ve just stimulated your creativity. Welcome to the wonderful world of making jewellery!

If you are looking for the perfect jewellery gift, the ideal places to look for it are none other than the stores of jewellery designers. The creation of a designer who is truly dedicated to his or her craft is something that a jewellery aficionado will definitely appreciate. There are many jewellery collectors out there who get so enamoured of a particular designer that they fill their entire collection with the work of just this designer.

But it should not be a deterrent for you if the person to whom you will be giving this gift of jewellery is not really knowledgeable about jewellery designers. It is, after all, the style that you should be looking at and the style of the designer should suit the taste of whoever is receiving your gift. Who knows, maybe your recipient would become a fan of the jewellery designers you have patronised, and this may make gift-giving a lot easier in the future.

Why Buy from Jewellery Designers?

There is a big advantage that buying fine jewellery directly from a designer gives. One such advantage is that you are sure that the jewellery you will buy is somewhat unique. Mass-produced jewellery pieces are just that: mass-produced. With these kinds of jewellery, it is entirely possible to walk down the street and see someone wearing the exact same piece that you are wearing. This can be potentially embarrassing and somehow devalues the gift.

On the other hand, this would not happen if the piece is a creation of certain designers. There are designers who only release a limited number of copies of their work to prevent their creations from being devalued. There are even some designers who create just one item from a specific design and then retire the design altogether.

You can even request a designer to create custom jewellery pieces for you. Even if what you require are just simple silver chains, a clever designer would be able to make those silver chains look truly one-of-a-kind.

How to Buy Jewellery as a Gift

How should you go about buying a gift of jewellery? Buying jewellery for someone else, especially if it is a gift, is not as easy as going to a jewellery store and making a purchase. You would need to make sure that it is something that the recipient will truly appreciate.

So, before you make a rush to the jewellery store, it may help you a lot to do some research about the person for whom you will be buying the jewellery. You can watch him or her and make yourself familiar with his or her sense of style. You can look out for indicators such as whether he or she likes gold jewellery more than silver jewellery. Do you have access to this person’s jewellery box? Take a look at what is inside for clues if you can.

Also, it may be necessary for you to weigh into the act of gift-giving the value of the jewellery gift and the occasion that prompted you to give the gift. Jewellery is expensive and people always read meanings into gifts of jewellery, particularly when it is the work of a famous jewellery designer. You would not want your recipient to reject the gift just because he or she misunderstood what you meant.
